Tracing Symbols Through Nature: Our New Film with Sedona Cohen

Last fall, we reached out to Sedona Cohen to document her practice. Since we couldn’t travel to film it ourselves, Sedona and her partner, Orion Eshel, helped by documenting her journey over three months. Today we are excited to share our newest film, a 17-minute documentary featuring Los Angeles-based artist Sedona Cohen.

The story begins in New York City in October 2025, where we first meet Sedona as she works on a hand-carved seashell panel. Joined by her partner Orion, who also served as cinematographer, she soon returns to Los Angeles and her studio at Mohlief Studios, where we spend several days observing her process. The seashell carving, first started in New York, continues to evolve throughout the film. In Los Angeles, we watch as Sedona paints the piece and reflects on her practice. Working in oil on canvas and hand-carved MDF panels, she creates symbols that emerge organically over time. For Sedona, the works inside her studio are in constant conversation with one another—even when she is not there. Paintings become companions, and meaning develops through their relationships.

Her work explores themes of nature, regeneration, and ecosystems, drawing inspiration from both observation and intuition. These ideas become even more apparent during the film's final chapter in Costa Rica, a place that holds special significance for her. Surrounded by dense forests and ever-changing weather systems, Sedona reflects on moments that have shaped her understanding of the natural world—from watching clouds form out of the warming earth to witnessing the movement of the elements across the landscape.

The film offers a glimpse into where her paintings stem from and the environments that continue to inform her visual language. Alongside the release of the documentary, we are also launching four exclusive art prints featuring Sedona's work, now available to purchase through our website.

From New York to Los Angeles and Costa Rica, the film follows the landscapes, symbols, and experiences that shape Sedona's practice. We hope it offers a deeper connection to both the artist and the world she creates through her work.
