Tim Hill
Musician of Episode 4
From slowing down during the pandemic and choosing a different way of life, Tim now finds himself at a ranch near Orange County, looking after horses during his day. There's a peacefulness that permeates the canyon, which gives Hill the space to reflect and connect to the land and his body. His music embodies this distinct twangy, heartfelt country melody often accompanied by melancholic or bittersweet qualities, which makes sense since his day-to-day backdrop is the hills of the Californian canyon. Tim’s harmony reflects rural life and values, celebrating the simplicity and beauty of living slow, ordinary people and their struggles, joys and relationships, as lonely harmonica solos drift over the weathered saguaros. Tim’s ambient music, with rich, expansive notes and subtle psychedelic effects, adds a fresh dimension to classic country music. During this interview with Tim, we dive into the characteristics of an artist versus a musician, the mental and physical change from excessive touring to labouring at a ranch and reflections on identity.
